Who We Are
A Community Rising for Conservation
Wajir Giraffe Sanctuary is a community-based conservation organization established in 2020 in Wajir County, Northern Kenya. We are dedicated to protecting the endangered reticulated Somali giraffe, a unique species native to this region.
Located in the arid and semi-arid landscapes of North Eastern Kenya, the sanctuary serves as a critical safe haven for giraffes facing threats from poaching, habitat loss, and human-wildlife conflict.
Born from local efforts, the sanctuary promotes community-driven conservation, combining giraffe monitoring, awareness campaigns, and habitat restoration. We also integrate eco-tourism, education, and climate resilience to support both wildlife and local livelihoods.
By partnering with elders, youth, women’s groups, and conservation agencies, we champion the belief that lasting conservation starts with the communities who share the land with wildlife.

To conserve and protect the endangered reticulated Somali giraffe and its habitat in Wajir County through community-led efforts, education, research, and sustainable development that benefits both people and wildlife.
